This jersey was acquired directly from the Avalanche. The jersey shows good overall wear, though not hammered. It has some good stick marks spread randomly thoughout the shirt, with good marks on both lower sleeves. It also has a number of snags and small tears in various places on the shirt. It carries no set mark, but has certainly seen its share of regular-season use. The snap in the fight strap shows a small amount of rust. This jersey is one of the largest ever made; it is not only a 58G, but is also a custom long cut, which is shown by the "L" flyout tag in the neck. The sleeves are 24-inch sleeves, as opposed to the 20- to 22-inch sleeves on most other jerseys. The jersey features the unique inlaid number construction typical of the 97-98's, in which the layering of the numbers is reversed from the traditional top-to-bottom. In this version, the main portion of the number is inlaid, with the two outer colors raised even with each other. 97-98 also features the logo-only hem design. This particular jersey has nice folds in the logo, which reflects Krupp's bent-over skating style. Overall, this jersey shows decent wear, with a few good marks, as well as a number of small snag-type holes. The jersey is accompanied by the Avalanche LOA.

Uwe Krupp's overtime goal, which earned the Colorado Avalanche a 1-0 win over the Florida Panthers and the 1996 Stanley Cup title, created more excitement in German hockey circles than any event since the West German national team won a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics in Innsbruck. The 6'6", 235-pound defenceman underwent ligament surgery in 1995 following a collision with Detroit's Martin Lapointe and missed most of the 1995-96 NHL season, but returned in time to play outstanding hockey in the last few games of the regular season and the playoffs. He had played only six regular-season games for the Avalanche, but had an excellent playoff series with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 22 games.
Krupp was a member of two German league championship teams with the Cologne Sharks in 1984 and 1986. He also played for his country at the World Championships of 1986 in Moscow and 1990 in Bern. Born in Cologne, he was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 13th round, 214th overall in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, and improved rapidly to the point where he represented the Sabres in the 1991 All-Star game. He was traded to the New York Islanders in the fall of 1991, then to the Quebec Nordiques in the summer of 1994. The Nordiques became the Colorado Avalanche in 1995. The Nashville Predators claimed him from the Colorado roster in the 1998 Expansion Draft and his rights were traded to Detroit.
Despite his Stanley Cup success in the 1995-96 season, Krupp declined an invitation to play for Germany in the World Cup in the late summer of 1996, preferring to avoid further injury that would jeopardize him and the Avalanche in the 1996-97 season. He represented his country at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan, but arrived too late to help Germany make the medal round. Germany was forced to play in the preliminary round, and because the NHL schedule overlapped with that round he could not make it to Japan before the Germans had been upset 8-2 by Belarus.
Upon arriving in Detroit, Krupp went on to play 22 games with the Wings before injuries sidelined him for the remainder of the 1998-99 season. Continuous back problems kept Krupp out of hockey for the next two seasons and played only eight games with the Red Wings in 2001-02 capturing his second Stanley Cup before signing with the Atlanta Thrashers during the off season as an unrestricted free agent.

Transferred to Colorado after Quebec franchise relocated, June 21, 1995. Claimed by Nashville from Colorado in Expansion Draft, June 26, 1998. Signed as a free agent by Detroit, July 7, 1998. Missed remainder of 1998-99 season and entire 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons recovering from back injury suffered prior to game vs. Phoenix, December 19, 1998. Signed as a free agent by Atlanta, July 19, 2002. Missed majority of 2002-03 season recovering from back surgery, November 6, 2002. Officially announced retirement, April 27, 2003.
