JT Compher

J.T. Compher was born on April 8, 1995 in Northbrook, Illinois. A product of the U.S. Nation Development Team, he was selected in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres and would go on to attend the University of Michigan. In his final season at Michigan Compher served as team captain and led the nation with 47 assists in 37 games.

On June 26, 2015, Compher’s time in the Sabres’ organization would come to an end. He was traded along with Nikita Zadorov, Mikhail Grigorenko and a draft pick to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Ryan O’Reilly and Jaime McGinn.

Compher made his professional debut during the 2016-17 season, starting the season with the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In 41 games for the club he scored 13 times and added 17 assists. His strong play was rewarded with his first recall to the NHL. He made his NHL debut on March 2, 2017 and would go on to appear in 21 games for the Avalanche as the season came to an end.

Compher would follow this up with a strong 2017-2018 "rookie" NHL season, appearing in 69 regular season games, scoring 13 goals and tallying 10 assists for 28 points.
