Blake Comeau was born February 18, 1986 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. The New York Islanders' second round, 47th overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Comeau is a graduate of the WHL's Kelowna Rockets.
A multi-dimensional player, Comeau honed his skills over four seasons with the Kelowna Rockets. With his point total increasing year by year, Comeau was instrumental in helping the Rockets win the Memorial Cup in 2005. In his final season of junior hockey the Islander prospect totaled 21 goals, 53 assists for 74 points, bettering his personal best by 27 points and finishing in the top 20 in WHL scoring.
After signing a three-year contract with the Islanders Comeau joined the club's AHL affiliate for the 2006 AHL playoffs. The following season, despite a strong NHL training camp, Comeau was assigned back the AHL. He was recalled by the Islanders on December 7th to appear in his first NHL game.
Internationally, Comeau won a gold medal representing his homeland at the 2006 World Junior Championships.
During the 2010-11 season Comeau would have an offensive explosion. In 77 games for the Islanders he recorded 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points, all career bests. For his efforts he was rewarded with a hefty new contract from the Islanders.
The following season was a struggle for Comeau. In 16 games for the Islanders he failed to record a point and was put on waivers. He was subsequently claimed by the Calgary Flames.
On April 3, 2013, the NHL trade deadline, Comeau was traded by the Flames to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a draft pick.
After two seasons in Columbus where he struggled, Comeau would sign a one year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 1, 2014.
Due to a comeback year with the Penguins in the 2014-15 season, Comeau would be rewarded by signing a three year contract with the Colorado Avalanche on July 1, 2015.
