1999-2000
Fifth Season
Identification The 1999-2000 jerseys are easily identified, first by the NHL2000 patch on the chest, and second by the fact this was the only year the jerseys were manufactured by Pro Player. The Pro Player logo can be found on the rear hem.
General The Pro Player jerseys were not a clone of the Starter jerseys. In fact, there were differences in the way the jerseys fit, which led to a hodge-podge of set tagging, due to the players spending much of the year finding a fit they liked. This problem also caused a shortage of jerseys early in the year, so new jerseys were phased in as they could be acquired, and the later jerseys also had a slightly different fit to try and accommodate the players. The fabric weight is also slightly lighter than the Starter jerseys, and the jerseys appear to show more rips and tears as a result.
NHL
2000 patch In 99-00, all teams in the
league wore the "NHL 2000" commemorative patch on their right
chest. Different colored versions were made, so that the patch any given
team wore fit with their particular color scheme. For the Avalanche,
the patch was burgundy with the "NHL" and trim embroidered
in white, and the "2000" embroidered in silver.
Manufacturer The 99-00 jerseys were manufactured by Pro Player. This is the only season for Pro Player jerseys.
Outer
Hem Logo The hem tag is embroidered;
the Pro Player logo is done in white and the NHL shield is done in black,
trimmed with silver (not orange as in previous years).
Nameplates The letters measure 4" and are sewn to a nameplate.
Numbers Numbers should measure approximately 12", however they may measure as large as 12.25" on any given jersey, but the sleeve numbers should still measure 4.5.
Team Collar Markings Many of these jerseys contain a mark which is located on the collar tag. Early-on, many players had trouble with the fit of the jerseys. As new jerseys were brought in, they were marked in various ways to identify if the jersey was a good fit or a bad fit. According to the trainers, a jersey without a collar mark is a jersey that the player used until a better fitting one was arranged. The markings appear in black marker, and can be "i", "ii", or "N". Although these markings were used by the team to keep track of the jerseys, they are not considered the set mark (see Meigray Set Mark).
MeiGray Set Mark At the end of the season, the jerseys currently in use were gathered for shipment to Meigray. At this point, the jerseys were marked on the fight strap with a "3", to uniformly designate them as a set. Later, the jerseys used in the playoffs were also sent to Meigray, and are marked on the fight strap with a "4". A few jerseys made their way from the team over the course of the year, and contain no mark on the fight strap. A jersey from this season may carry any combination of collar and fight strap marks, or carry no markings at all, depending on how it was released from the team.
Size tag The 99-00 size tag is a small flyout tag that sticks out from the bottom of the Pro Player neck tag. It is black with a white number (56, 58. etc.). A goalie cut is designated with a "G" in front of the number (G56). The tag also displays "Made in Canada" in different languages.
Washing Tags The washing tag is a large rectangular soft cloth version, and is sewn into the left side body seam.
