Identification The 2003-2004 jerseys should have the season's set patch in the rear hem. However, this is the third of three seasons in which CCM airknits were used and the CCM/KOHO lettered patch appears on the rear collar (2000-2001 jerseys have the same characteristics, but carry the All-Star patch).

General 2003-2004 is the third consecutive year of this style, so these jerseys have all the same physical characteristics as the jerseys of the last two seasons. As with 2002-2003, the jerseys have the NHL Meigray (NHL-MGG) tag in the rear hem, which means they are absolutely identical to the 2002-2003 jerseys. This is the second season of the NHL-MGG program. All NHL-MGG tags from this season begin with the letter "B".

One difference this year, which does not affect the actual jerseys, is that begining this season, the whites were worn on the road and the Burgundy at home. On a couple of occasions, the whites were worn at home to accomodate the visiting team.

Sets (numbers) The team is scheduled to wear three sets, with set 3 being worn into the playoffs. Two sets of alternates are scheduled to be worn, both in the regular season. As with most teams, a few players wear extra jerseys. The dates of the sets will be provided once the NHL-MGG population report is published.

Alternate/Third Jerseys This is the third season of the alternate maroon jersey. These jerseys exist in two sets and were worn 12 games. The jerseys are KOHO airknits, and all items are sewn on. Their set tagging is identical to the regular jerseys.

NHL-MGG Population Report

Crest/Sewn-on items These items have not changed and are identical to 2001-2003.

Manufacturer Home jerseys(burgundy) are made by Koho, roads(white) and thirds are made by CCM.

Nameplates The letters measure 4" and are sewn to a nameplate. The nameplate itself is the same fabric as the jersey.

Numbers The numbers remain the same from the 2001-2003. The back numbers measure 12", while the sleeve numbers measure about 4.5".

Outer logos The CCM and Koho logos appear on the back of the collar, immediately below the neck trim. They are a patch sewn to the jersey, and overlap the center point of the shoulder piping. The CCM logo measures 4" by 1.25", while the Koho logo is slightly larger, measuring 5.5" by 1.5". Both are embroidered on a twill backing. the NHL shield appears on the right outer hem, is black with silver, and is embroidered through the jersey.

Set Markings As with 2002-2003, the 2003-2004 jerseys have the NHL-MGG tagging sewn inside the rear hem, next to, but on the opposite side of the NHL shield. The Description of this tag will be provided once the 2003-2004 jerseys are released.

To my knowledge, all publicly marketed jerseys will be distributed through Meigray, and are accompanied by a NHL-MGG Letter of Authenticity. Teams do have the right to distribute some jerseys privately, but any of those should be marked as promotional jerseys.

Trainer's Markings There are no official trainer's markings in this season's jerseys, although it is possible individual players' shirts may have some kind of personal designation.

McCormick gives up number to Konowalchuk Cody McCormick began the season wearing number 22, but changed to 20 when Steve Konowalchuk was acquired from Washington on October 22. The switch was accomplished with a simple number change to the second digit of McCormick's jersey. Konowalchuk received new jerseys numbered with his 22.

Construction This season's jerseys are standard Airknits.

  • Trim. The trim piping (blue/grey on the home, black/white on the road) is a sublimated panel of airknit material incorporated into the jersey. The upper trim contains the stripe only, while the lower panel incorporates the neighboring jersey color on the top and bottom of the stripe. The collar piping is the 3 color stretch band that the team has always used.
  • Cuffs. The sleeves have a separate panel attached at the end to create the cuff. The seam for this panel occurs where the piping makes its angled break.

Tagging The tags are located in two places:

  • Washing Tag. The wash tag is located inside the jersey, stitched into the left side seam. It is a soft cloth tag with manufacturer's information and washing instructions printed on. It says "Airknit" at the top.
  • Size tag. A small white flyout with black lettering sewn to the "Made in Canada" tag, which is sewn to the jersey.
  • NHL-MGG tag. Sewn inside the right rear hem.
